Communication Media Studies
Self-Reflection

What does it mean to you to be a Communication and Media Studies student?

I learned the importance of the history of media, along with how media is constantly changing our communication between people, and the use of technology.

How has your learning impacted you personally/professionally?

Learning about communication and media has been eye-opening in more ways than one. For example, when I personally consume media I am able to pick out communication media theories as to why people act or behave the way they do by looking at whom they follow, what kind of content is posted, and what people are into based on looking at the types of media that are consumed. My learning in Communication Media Studies has helped me professionally through an internship I had in the summer of 2022 where I was asked to work seven days a week on-call for 12 hours a day by answering phone calls for possible bookings for Fox River Kayaking Company in Appleton, Wi. I had other tasks such as creating a weekly schedule for employees (tour guides) for the week for guided excursions and/or rentals, and running the Facebook and Instagram accounts. The tasks that I was given by this company really furthered my knowledge of having strong communication skills, dependability, and detail orientated.
